Catholic Prayer Cards —
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you order.
About the Cards
Pax & Ora Catholic prayer cards are small cards — the size of a playing card — printed with a direct prayer prompt addressed to Jesus. Each card gives you the first line of a real conversation with Jesus. The prompt opens the prayer. You finish it in your own words.
Every card includes a subtext — a short instruction or reflection to guide your next thought — and a scripture reference at the bottom for anyone who wants to go deeper. Cards are printed on Premium Smooth card stock with a matte finish on both sides and come in a custom tuck box. Each pack contains 70 total cards — 60 prayer prompt cards plus instruction and sharing cards.
Yes. Every pack comes in a custom tuck box designed specifically for that pack. The box is compact — slightly larger than a deck of playing cards — and fits comfortably in a hand, a purse, or a back pocket. Each box is color coded by pack and includes the pack name, card count, and brand copy on the exterior.
The cards themselves are the size of standard playing cards — 2.48 inches by 3.46 inches — printed on Premium Smooth card stock with a matte finish on both sides. They are designed to be held, shuffled, and used repeatedly.
Using the Cards
There is no wrong way. The instruction card inside every pack walks you through six steps — make the Sign of the Cross, still yourself, pick a card, read it slowly, say the prayer in your own words, and end with a thank you. Beyond that the method is yours.
Some people pull one card a day. Some shuffle through and stop on the one that speaks to them. Some keep a card on their desk and return to it throughout the day. Some use them at Adoration, in the car, before bed, or at the kitchen table. Children can use them independently. Adults bring them on retreats. There is no schedule and no requirement. Just pick one up and begin.
Yes. The Family Pack includes a dedicated Kids section with 12 prayer prompt cards written specifically for young children. The prompts are simple, direct, and age appropriate — short enough to read independently, honest enough to open a real conversation with Jesus.
Children who have reviewed the Kids cards describe them as fitting in their hand, easy to shuffle, and simple to understand. The prompts start with Jesus and give a short thought to pray about — not a full prayer to memorize, but a starting point for their own words.
Theology & Teaching
No. Pax & Ora Catholic prayer cards are not blessed and are not sacramentals. They are a prayer tool — a starting point for a conversation with Jesus. They do not require a blessing to be used in prayer and their spiritual value comes from the prayer they prompt, not from any blessing conferred on the object itself.
If you would like to have your cards blessed you are welcome to bring them to your priest. Any Catholic priest can bless devotional objects upon request. This is entirely optional and does not affect how the cards work.
Pax & Ora Catholic prayer cards are not blessed sacramentals and do not require the specific disposal methods required for items such as blessed rosaries, scapulars, or holy water. They may be disposed of in regular recycling when they are no longer needed.
If you feel moved to dispose of them more reverently — by burning or burying them — that is a beautiful and entirely appropriate choice. The Catholic tradition of reverent disposal of religious items reflects a right ordering toward the sacred and is always commendable. But it is not required for unblessed Catholic prayer cards.
When in doubt speak with your parish priest. He can advise based on your specific situation.
Yes. Every pack was reviewed multiple times against the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Catholic tradition before going to print. The theology is conservative and traditional. The Marian cards are properly ordered — Mary intercedes, Jesus saves. The sacramental references are accurate. Nothing in any pack contradicts defined Catholic doctrine.
We are a Catholic family building prayer tools for other Catholics. Getting the theology right is not optional for us — it is the whole point.
Yes. Imaginative prayer — the practice of placing yourself inside a Gospel scene and encountering Jesus there — is a method developed by Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus and a Doctor of the Church. It has been used in Catholic spiritual direction and retreat for over 500 years and is fully consistent with Catholic teaching on prayer (CCC 2708).
The Pax & Ora Imaginative Prayer pack applies this method in a simple accessible format. Each card places you inside a Gospel scene or brings Jesus into your day. No experience required. Just show up and let Him speak.
Purchasing & Pricing
Seventy professionally printed cards on Premium Smooth card stock in a custom tuck box. That is less than sixty cents per card — each one a complete prayer prompt, subtext, and scripture reference written specifically for Catholic prayer.
Compare that to a Catholic devotional book you read once. A prayer app subscription you forget to cancel. A gift that sits on a shelf. These cards get used. They fit in a hand, a purse, a car console, a nightstand drawer. Children pick them up on their own. Adults bring them to Adoration. Priests use them in daily prayer.
If one card opens one honest conversation with Jesus that would not have happened otherwise — it was worth it.
